My previous exploration of CMSs had identified Edmodo as a powerful system for the elementary teacher. This week, I embarked on the task of creating my first assessment in Edmodo. The assessment is a reading comprehension test that has been differentiated for the three tiered groups (lower ability, middle ability and higher ability). In my previous review, I had highlighted that one of the great features of Edmodo is that it allows for personalised learning. Teachers can create small groups within the main class and target each group with different assignments and quizzes. Using this small group feature, I was able to create a differentiated assessment for each group that varies the number of questions asked and the format of questions between groups.
Edmodo’s quiz feature also allows the teacher to set time limits for the quiz and to link the quiz to the student’s gradebook so that progress can be tracked over a series of assessments. This is important so that I can see student’s growth over time and to identify areas of weaknesses that can be used to inform instruction.

Hello Sara!
Nice job with your screencast! Here is some feedback 🙂
I like how you were able to walk through Edmodo to show how user friendly it is. I had a little bit of a hard time understanding you. Maybe it is a microphone thing, it just sounded a little groggy. I love that you set this up as a second grade reading comprehension assessment (and I love that you picked James And The Giant Peach). I would mention that it is for second grade, even though it clearly is written on the screen, if the viewer is listening more than focused on the screen they may miss it. I love how you differentiated the assessments to better meet the needs of each of your students. I also really appreciate how the passage is there for students to refer back to as needed.Great job mentioning the standard you are focusing on. I was wondering about it, and then you said it. My big question is why did you choose Edmodo over the other possible tools? Being a lower elementary teacher did you think Edmodo would be more user friendly for your younger students? I really struggled with this assignment because I teach kindergarten, and finding a tool that was something kindergarteners could use was very challenging. I was also curious when and where your students would be taking this assessment? Would it be whole class on the computers in the library or in small groups at a computer station you have in your room? I think the differentiation would allow for both, but was curious what you had in mind. Lastly, it said in the criteria that the video was only supposed two minutes, and yours was a little long. I know that they have made the time limit longer, so this won’t be as much of a worry. Awesome job!
